Meet Great Day in the Morning!
Great Day in the Morning was created by two siblings Brandon Hughett and Lesia Hughett Terry. Raised in the
East Tennessee mountain community of Robbins, they inherited musical talent from several generations.
While receiving instruction from talented musicians in the industry, Lesia and Brandon decided to form the
group “Great Day in the Morning”.
The band name came from one of their late Grandfather's famous quotes, “Great day in the morning!”
Lesia plays Bluegrass Fiddle. Having never played an instrument, her desire to play was evident. After
learning the basics, she quickly excelled to the next level of playing. She currently receives instruction from one
of Nashville’s finest fiddlers, Dan Kelly. Lesia continues to learn many new styles of playing and enjoys
traveling to each monthly session with Dan in Nashville. Lesia also sings lead and does backup vocals. She
is also a mother and a grandmother. We can’t wait to see what she does next!
Brandon plays upright Bass Fiddle. Brandon’s musical talent comes from years of experience including his
participation in the local High School Band. He is talented in piano and other instruments also. Brandon
received bass instruction from Kipper Stitt of Knoxville, Tennessee and continues to excel in his playing
abilities. Brandon sings lead vocals on many of the songs included on this CD as well as backup vocals. He
and his wife Hayley live in Powell, Tennessee with their two children, or should we say....Siberian Huskies,
Rustin and Ruby. When not playing bluegrass, you'll find him at 25,000 feet flying corporate airplanes across
the US or at his flight school in Knoxville, Tennessee teaching students to fly. It is rumored that when Brandon
found out that Lesia was excelling at fiddle, he realized that in order to stay ahead of her, he must buy a much
larger fiddle than hers.
Mark Hancock plays banjo. With his 1935 Gibson Banjo, He has a unique playing style that sets him aside
from all the others. Mark has years of talent and is a member of a popular local group known as The Hancock
Family. His playing style is loved by many and we are in awe every time he hits the first string. When Mark is
not picking banjo, you can find him in his Hunting and Fishing supplies store serving the public for more than
25 years! Mark has been a big influence on many and we are honored and thrilled to have him on this CD!
David Duncan plays rhythm guitar. His guitar playing style really brings our group to life. Along with talent and
years of experience, he has greatly influenced us to strive for perfection. No matter what song we choose, he
provides us with the sound we are looking for! David is a true friend to many and we are pleased to have him.
David owns and operates his logging business but still manages to support our group when we need him!
James Ipock plays Mandolin. He comes from a musical background playing several instruments. Over the last
several years, his mandolin playing has developed into a sound that enriches our groups unique character
with traditional bluegrass mandolin playing. When not playing mandolin, you'll find James and his wife
Charlotte hard at work in their furniture store in Robbins, Tennessee. We are extremely honored to have him
pickin' with us on this CD and at our concerts.
